Artist Statement

There are many details in everyday moments that go unnoticed because of the rush to get things done and keep up with our busy lives. Through a profound curiosity of the individual, I find that these moments are unique, telling, and full of feelings. What would we feel if we noticed the highlights in our plastic water bottles catching light from the windows, or the interesting assortment of colors that become encased in the shadows around our eyes? I feel wonder and a powerful sense of presence in these moments. 

My work revolves around bringing these details to the viewer. I paint these details big and bold for people to see, hoping that they may notice them and experience the same awe that I did.

Working in this way keeps me steady, balanced. It is a way of connecting with my environment and showing others that this really is a beautiful life, despite the ups and downs of our human feelings. I paint large canvases of realistic oil paintings and full tonal watercolors on thick watercolor paper. I work diligently to make sure the textures are comprehensible, patiently painting in colorful, moody layers until it is time to add the details on top. 

My inspiration comes from my own trials and tribulations as a human being. I have an abundance of weighty feelings that need to be realized and gently released. I do this by capturing them visually which brings me great peace, exuberance, and satisfaction in my own work.
